PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) through a scientific paper entitled "Sustainable High Performance Concrete for Transportation Infrastructure Developments", received the Best Paper Award in the Sustainable Transportation category at the 11th International Conference on Sustainable Energy Engineering and Application (ICSEEA) 2024 organized by the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN) on February 28-29, 2024 in Bali.

"Sustainable High Performance Concrete for Transportation Infrastructure Developments" is the result of joint research between SIG's Research & Development function and BRIN in the development of sustainable high-grade concrete, using SIG's SNI 8912:2020 hydraulic cement product, PwrPro (pronounced pa-wer-pro) High Early type, at the R&D laboratory facility and Pulogadung batching plant operated by SIG's business unit, PT Solusi Bangun Beton.

SIG Operations Director Reni Wulandari said that SIG uses applied research as the basis for developing eco-products and applications, in order to continuously produce innovative, quality products and solutions that meet market needs. The Best Paper Award is an international recognition of the excellence of research and innovation at SIG.

"SIG always carries out business processes by referring to the ESG framework in accordance with regulations set by the government, including carrying out national and international standard research, so that the products produced are expected to be able to respond to changing times and meet the needs of the building materials industry which continues to develop towards a low-carbon industry," added Reni Wulandari.

SIG's General Manager of Research and Development, Oktoria Masniari, explained that the research results in the paper submitted to ICSEEA 2024 show that concrete developed using High Early type hydraulic cement SNI 8912:2020 has a quality that is not inferior to conventional concrete because it is able to support large traffic loads and high traffic flow density levels.

Concrete based on hydraulic cement type High Early SNI 8912:2020 is also able to achieve 100% of the target flexural strength of 4.5 MPa in just 3 days, or faster than the standard required by the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR Ministry) for pavement applications which is 28 days (concrete quality FS45).

In addition, another advantage of SNI 8912:2020 hydraulic cement-based concrete is that it is more eco-friendly. Hydraulic cement is a type of cement produced by optimizing the use of sustainable cementitious materials, so that in its application it can produce concrete materials with lower CO2 emissions.

"The development of low carbon emission products is SIG's contribution and support to the collective efforts to achieve the net zero emission target, to mitigate the impact of climate change so that the earth remains a comfortable place for all living things," concluded Reni Wulandari.

The paper entitled "Sustainable High Performance Concrete for Transportation Infrastructure Developments" was prepared by SIG Team Oktoria Masniari, Elfiranahla Chandra Dewi, Chusla Ramah, and Nur Asriana together with BRIN Team Agus Hadi Santosa Wargadipura, Sri Rahayu, and Seto Roseno. After going through the review process by the jury and presentation by the drafting team, the paper successfully eliminated 45 other papers in the Sustainable Transportation category and was selected as the winner of the Best Paper Award.

SIG's High Early SNI 8912:2020 type hydraulic cement product, PwrPro, has been applied in various important infrastructure developments in Indonesia, including Purwosari Flyover, Batang Industrial Estate, Merapi Sabo Dam, Tukad Unda Flood Control, and Kendal Industrial Park.
