Semen Indonesia Wins Good Mining Practice Award from the ESDM Office of Central Java Province
Semarang, August 15, 2019 – PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk was awarded the Good Mining Practice award from the Office of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) of Central Java Province. The award was given for environmentally friendly mining practices carried out by Semen Indonesia at the Rembang Plant and Cilacap Plant.
The Rembang factory, owned by PT Semen Gresik, won the Best Award in the large scale mining category. While the Cilacap Factory, owned by PT Solusi Bangun Indonesia Tbk won the 2nd Best award in the same category.
The Head of the Department of Communication of the Indonesian Cement Company Sigit Wahono said that the award for Good Mining Practice was an appreciation of the Company’s success in managing mining activities. The company is considered to have fulfilled all the requirements stipulated, including the completeness of administrative documents, technical implementation to environmental aspects.
In managing the mines at the Rembang Plant, the Company applies the Zero Run Off practice, where water does not flow immediately, but is retained in the mine field and is absorbed by the soil so it is very environmentally friendly. The Company has also carried out several environmental management programs in the mining and post-mining areas.
Until 2018, the Company has planted 22,000 trees in the Rembang Factory mining area. At the Cilacap Plant, the Company has also planted 30,770 trees in the limestone quarry area of 51.76 hectares.
From the safety aspect, the Company applies strict mining operational standards. The company regularly reports mining activities to the government in accordance with applicable regulations.
